I was doing fine with the ‘current‘ version of Wordpress. Really I do, and I don’t have any plan of upgrading to the latest version. I’ve even discussed this with my friend Jan last Sunday who said he already updated his blog to the latest version of WP, and said it was just easy. Jan, like me, is a self-confessed non-techie too.

So what made me change my mind and finally upgrade my Wordpress version? There were warning signs all over the place! It’s like a fire alarm that won’t stop, and every corner you turn, there’s another alarm ringing.

I first heard it from Amor’s blog who said that all Wordpress users must upgrade. I wondered why, and upon reading her post, paranoia started sinking in on me — old versions of Wordpress are vulnerable to attacks!

Later, my friend Eric tweeted his latest post – Wordpress under attack, a scarier scenario was painted and really didn’t help on my state of paranoia who is now rising to alert level 3.

Much later, Jan emailed a copy from his Google Reader’s subscription – Wordpress Worm Attack.

Now, I don’t need a fourth voice to tell me to upgrade, and I don’t want somebody coming to me and saying, “I told you so!” should I get hit by the worm.

Immediately, in a very unsure sequence, I started making a backup of my WP blogs in the only way I know – exporting them to my hard disk.

I really don’t know if that would suffice or not, but at least it gave me the confidence to proceed to the next step – upgrading to the latest WP version, and this I did via automatic online upgrading.

Thanks heavens! Everything went well, from one Wordpress blog to another, I upgraded them all. Now, I should feel safer… I mean, I should, right?
