Twitter can be an effective marketing tool!

And Dell has proven that! Because as the the title in this ComputerWorld article says: Dell Tweets Its Way to $3 Million in Sales. This only that, indeed, Twitter can be an effective marketing tool!

While the rest of us would use Twitter to tweet what we’re doing, like eating, writing, watching, or reading… or tweeting great discoveries we found on the net… or even sharing our latest blog masterpiece, Dell has other use for it.

Since 2007, when it becomes a member of the social media, Dell has been offering company specials as well as responding to customers’ queries. And just like that, the company was able to generate more than $3 million in sales which can be directly attributed to its Twitter activities.

This was reported by the company itself on its Direct2Dell blog.

Said amount was broken down into $2 million in Dell Outlet sales, while the $1 million were from customers who entered the Dell site via Twitter. Dell Outlet has been using Twitter to promote clearance sales, coupons, and other discount-related fodder.

Maybe it’s high time we see Twitter differently. With the power of re-tweets, a business can really reached more customers. Which is what happened to Dell, as it followers re-tweets its sale and promotions that made it able to reached a wider market.

This makes Twitter the cheapest marketing tool ever. With such success by Dell, would it be such a far-fetch idea for Twitter to reconsider its position and charge corporate account. Twitter has yet to establish a business model for making money.

Hmm… I really think I have enough reason to get back to being an entrepreneur now. Twitter seems to be a more promising platform than Multiply. I have to build my number of followers on my Twitter account though.
