Astronaut Mike Massimino made Twitter history by being the first man to send a tweet from outer space, as he sent his tweet about their launch to orbit from their space shuttle Atlantis.

Massimino, said in his tweet “From orbit: Launch was awesome!! I am feeling great, working hard, & enjoying the magnificent views, the adventure of a lifetime has begun!”

As early as April, he has been tweeting as he prepares for his mission, to repair the Hubble Space Telescope. Massimino, whose Twitter ID is astro_mike has more than 240,000 followers.

Atlantis launched Monday afternoon with Massimino and six other crew members. It is NASA‘s fifth and final repair visit to the Hubble. The crew was expected to arrive at the space telescope on Wednesday.

We can expect to hear more updates from astro_mike as he tweets his team’s progress in their mission.

Well, I guess, now we can say that Twitter is really out-of-this world!
